salsa ingredients vegetablesSalsa can be extremely expensive – $3-5 for a small jar- and the ingredients are fairly simple: tomatoes, onions, garlic, salt, pepper and some kind of chile/jalapeño. So, why so expensive?. Convenience I suppose?

While we tend to buy salsa during our busiest times, everyone in my household prefers homemade. My family, however is quite picky and likes to keep it simple.

Neither one of my kids like onions or tomatoes yet oddly, they love my homemade salsa (which contains both of those ingredients) with chips as their after school snack. The key? No big chunks of these offensive vegetables. My husband on the other hand doesn’t like the salsa too smooth and he also does not like it when I roast the veggies first which makes it too sweet in his eyes. He also does not like any of my more adventurous ingredients such as cilantro (which tastes like soap to him apparently) or avocado, which he finds disgusting.

Ahh, the balance of family peace.
