Twin Warriors Golf Club at the Tamaya Resort

This October, my husband and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary with a round of golf at Twin Warriors and one night at the Tamaya resort located in Bernalillo (about a 20 minute drive from Albuquerque). You can see some lovely pictures of the golf course at their website however, their pictures don’t quite instill the panic I felt on the hole below.

Notice the giant patch of rough lying in between the fairway and the green and there were so many really, really deep bunkers – I seemed to find my way to the majority of them. It was a super challenging course and we lost a lot of balls but we had a fabulous time. The weather was perfect and the best part is that for the entire month of October, if you play after 12:00 pm, you get the twilight rate which is $40 and includes a cart plus a bucket.

After the game we were famished and headed to the Santa Ana Café in the hotel which hosted a vegetarian and vegan friendly buffet. They have a fancier restaurant called the Corn Maiden but most of their menu items contained meat. The food was really good and there were a lot of healthy New Mexican food choices (beans, Spanish rice, fajitas, salad and an amazing corn chowder). They also had baked salmon, shrimp cocktail and my husband indulged in pineapple upside-down cake.

After dinner we walked around the resort and found our way to some awesome fire pits outside of the Rio Grande Lounge which had live music playing. I wish I had gotten a better picture of the fire pit. There were multiple ones with enough space for a lot of people to enjoy.

I got a better picture the next day while we were waiting for the balloons to lift off. This image gives you a better idea of the size.

We were able to see the balloons from this distance but they were little tiny pinpoints in the sky. To really experience the Balloon Fiesta, I recommend getting a lot closer (see our bike trail anniversary from last year). I am planning on exploring the experience from Sandia Casino next year so, I’ll keep you posted.

Lastly, we went on a little walk around the property. There was a ‘Be Aware’ sign that warned us to be on the lookout for coyotes, rattlesnakes and wild cats (yipes!). But we stuck to the trail and didn’t encounter anything dangerous.

Overall, it was a great experience and we had great service at both the golf course and the resort. Oh and I almost forgot -you might want to try a Bloody Mary at Twin Warriors – it had a fabulous smoky and spicy kick to it.
